Volume 50
The Journal of Legislation is currently accepting submissions for Volume 50.

General Information
The Journal of Legislation (JLEG) seeks to publish scholarly works focused on legislative, regulatory, and public policy matters regardless of authors’ political affiliations. We publish pieces analyzing issues of local, national, and international significance from legislators, policymakers, academics and practitioners.

Timing
JLEG accepts submissions on a rolling bases for inclusion one of our two issues per volume, published in the spring and autumn, respectively. We generally review manuscripts submitted in the spring and summer for inclusion in the first issue of each volume and manuscripts submitted in the autumn and witner for inclusion in the second issue. Because JLEG is student-run, our editorial staff changes each academic year, so we typically do not consider pieces for publication in volumes succeeding an upcoming volume.

Submission Guidelines
JLEG prefers to publish pieces greater than 10,000 words in length but fewer than 25,000, including footnotes. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case bases. We also hosts one symposium per year, an event featuring speakers and discussion panels concerning one specific legislative topic. We may also consider shorter pieces addressing an upcoming symposium topic for publication.

We strongly prefer to recive submissions as a Microsoft Word document. Manuscript citations should be with the 21st edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. JLEG does not publish pieces submitted by current law students unafilliated with the University of Notre Dame Law School.

We require authors to submit a curriculum vitae or resume listing past publications, and we encourage authors to submit a cover letter explaining the relevance and context of the submitted piece. We also ask authors to include current contact information where they can be reached throughout the review period.

Expedited Review
We encourage authors to request expedited review through Scholastica if another publication offer is recieved before the editorial board has made a decision concerning a manuscript submitted to JLEG.

The Selection Process
Members of JLEG’s Editorial Board review all manuscripts submitted for publication. Each piece is reviewed by at least two Board members.

Once an article has been selected, the Editor-in-Chief will contact the author(s) to notify them of a publication offer. Authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication should expect to work closely with JLEG’s editorial staff to make substantive and technical changes required.
